The Heart of a Volunteer

“If not me, than who?”

Volunteer Norm Thomas has volunteered with children for the last 20 years and doesn’t plan to stop anytime soon.

Norm became a Volunteer Guardian ad Litem for our program back in April 2010 and switched to a non-case volunteer in January 2016. Since that time, the 80-year-old has chosen to focus his attention on giving support to the boys at a local Pensacola group home. He takes the boys, ages 9-15 on regular field trips to places like the water park and the fishing rodeo.  This Fourth of July he will bring the 12 boys all the American fare of a traditional southern BBQ. Back in December, after he bought each of the boys a $100 gift card for Christmas, they sent him a beautiful thank you card that each of them signed. He deeply values that card but he’s not in it for the accolades. When I asked Norm why he chooses to volunteer and give so generously to the boys, he responded, “I get more out of than they do.” Thank you Norm!
